So another year is nearly in the books. And fortunately, overall, it was a good year in the realm of my photography. I am finishing the year with a new direction after finally making a decision to step out on the proverbial limb to sell my images. A new website has unfolded with my photography in my name instead of hiding behind a name that only really meant something to me. I gave up on trying to design a logo and chose a logo that was professionally created for me. I set up the new site, because I finally realized that my images deserved to be shown in a wonderful light and not some free, generic solution.
Now I just have to produce. "Just"...the task seems daunting, bright, overpowering, exciting...
The idea tree is ripe with new buds. For a while now I have been wanting to step into a more artistic world. When I am seeing things through the viewfinder, I am no longer seeing just the image, but I am seeing the image in my minds eye on what it would look like as an HDR image, or one layered with different textures or one converted to sepia or black and white or crazily over saturated. In the past, those options only happened AFTER I took the photo and had it up on my computer screen. So that is a change in my process.
For a good part of this past year, I moved out of the "city limits" and started taking the camera to the trails and mountain tops. That will continue but I still would like to find my beaches as I always feel as one and at peace with the coastlines. Fortunately, with four vacations planned (two adventures in the woods of New England and two vacations where only palm trees grow), I should get the opportunity for some great photography covering many of types of scenery.
And then I have some really off the wall ideas that have been jostling around for some time now. A couple ideas I have already tried and they have been utter failures, but that hasn't deterred me. They are just visions. But if I play around with the visions enough, they could wind up being brilliant and one of a kind.
The other thing that is different is I am not so hung up on the equipment aspect anymore. It seems like I have all the tools (hardware and software) that I need (though a new carbon fiber tripod would be outstanding for hiking). I learned this past year that, for now, the Sigma wide angle and the Pentax DA * 60-250 was perfect for me. I just need to start packing the macro lens with me now that I am doing more nature photography again.
There are a couple of other things that are starting to take shape and I am truly excited at the possibilities. In the end, I realize that the past few years have been foundation laying. I needed to go thru a lot of stages to be where I am now with my photography. I am starting to see a "signature", a style, in my images. I want to continue to hone in on that style. It's coming around (though I have already been told by some that they can tell it's my work, even if it's not labeled).
So here is 2013 at our doorstep. What are your plans to continue on your "dream path"? Do you have anything stopping you? Are they walls or stumbling blocks? Whatever the case may be, be it big or small, I hope for you oodles of success!
Happy New Year!
